About Us

Our town

St. Arnaud is located in the Wimmera region of Victoria, 244 kilometers north-west of Melbourne and 105 kilometers west of Bendigo. 109 kilometers east of Horsham and 130 kilometers north of Ballarat. It is in the Shire of Northern Grampians local government area. St. Arnaud has a population of approximately 2,500.

The district around St. Arnaud supports an agricultural industry of sheep grazing, grains and wineries, with forested areas to the south and open Mallee plains to the north.

The town centre features many well preserved historic buildings many with wide verandahs and ornate cast iron lace work.

St. Arnaud is a former gold mining town, it is situated on the main route between Ballarat and Mildura. The town was settled in the mid-1850s, the post office opening on 1st February, 1856.

Our School

St. Arnaud Primary School has approximately 160 students from Prep to Year 6. The school has 7 classes.

St. Arnaud Primary School is committed to giving students the confidence and skills to engage and succeed in a changing world. We continue to focus on improving literacy and numeracy across all year levels. Improved structures, teacher professional development and use of data were all areas of focus in 2010. A high emphasis on Student Wellbeing and Mental Health is continuing in 2015. The school has an award winning Right Choices program, based at the school, functioned through the provision of a NAB Schools First Impact award. There is a strong partnership between the community and the school. Parents and community members are involved in a variety of programs including breakfast programs, the men’s shed, community gardening, reading helpers, community kitchen helpers and general volunteers.

Students play a key part in the future planning of the school through both the junior council and the student leadership group.

We have dedicated teachers who are committed to ensuring a safe and supportive quality learning environment exists so that students are able to participate to their fullest.

A range of opportunities to stretch and extend our students is offered. Leadership development, debating, public speaking, and artistic opportunities are provided throughout the year.

We are actively involved in sporting endeavours including football, cricket, hockey, basketball, tennis and of course swimming, cross country and athletics. We also participate in other health and physical activity related activities.

The school supports students with difficulties with targeted intervention by our Learning and Support Teachers. A range of in-class support strategies are also in place.
